From Self-Focus to Service: The Beautiful Transformation of Nervous Energy

Have you ever noticed how the moments that make us most nervous are often the ones where we're too focused on ourselves? That racing heart before a sales call, the butterflies before stepping on stage, or those jitters before a first date – they all stem from the same place: making it about us.

But here's where transformation happens...

I've learned something powerful through my own journey: when we shift our focus from our own needs to what we're called to share, everything changes. Let me share a recent experience that perfectly illustrates this.

The Power of Shifting Focus 

Recently, I helped a friend who was terrified of making sales calls. Instead of focusing on her fear, we made it fun by referencing "Miss Congeniality" (yes, the Sandra Bullock movie!). We talked about how simply putting on a smile – even if you need Vaseline on your teeth like Sandra – changes everything. Why? Because when you smile, you naturally sound happier, and that energy is contagious.

Here's the magic: When your energy is at a 10, you naturally lift others up with you. Conversely, if you're at a 2, you'll bring them down. It's not about faking it; it's about channeling your energy into service rather than self-doubt.

The Healing Balance 

But here's something deeply personal I've learned along the way: There's a delicate balance between helping others and taking care of yourself. For years, I found comfort in helping others through difficult situations, using my own experiences as a guide. While this helped me survive, it also delayed my own healing.

This is where another powerful affirmation came into play: "I will not love anyone more than I respect myself."

The Transformation Triangle:

  1. Shift Focus: When nervousness creeps in, ask yourself, "What am I here to give?" rather than "What might go wrong?"

  2. Energy Management: Choose to bring your energy up not for yourself, but for those you're serving

  3. Balanced Service: Help others while honoring your own journey of growth

The Beautiful Truth 

Whether it's offering a smile, sharing advice, or helping someone in need, serving others has a magical way of lifting our own spirits. But the real transformation happens when we learn to balance this service with self-respect and personal growth.
